  ABOUT

The Barbisms is a collection of art that examines the concept of the ideal woman, the influence that dolls play on the creation of gender roles, and the position of women in society.

The Barbisms is a parody.  An artistic work that imitates the artistic style of an author or work for comic effect or ridicule. The Barbisms ridicules the role dolls play and the stereotypes associated with the perfect woman.

The Barbisms is freedom of speech. Dolls breaking the silence and wanting to have their voices heard. Women's rights. Doll's rights. Artist's rights. The freedom of expression.

The Barbisms was created by the pop-artist DM HOWARD. Please enjoy The Barbisms. And if you have any complaints, you can go play hide and go fuck yourself.

  THE BARBISMS HISTORY

The Barbisms were introduced by pop-artist DM Howard in the exhibition "Dolor & Decadence" at the World's Fair Park in Knoxville, Tennessee in 2004. The Barbisms was an underground art movement that has tunred into a real life cult-phenom, thanks to many fans, blogggers, and the power of myspoace (thanks Tom). The first volume Freedom of Speech was then launched in 2005 at the debut exhibition "The Barbisms" at Hangar 1018 in downtown Los Angeles.

Prints from the second volume Breaking The Silence and the third volume The Secret debuted at Sandra Bernhad's opening party for Everything Bad & Beautiful at the Daryl Roth Theatre in New York City in April 2006. New volumes are currently under construction and are expected to be released early 2008.

The creator DM Howard is an artist based out of Hollywood, California. Please visit DMHOWARD.com to view more fine art by the artist. Also, please feel free to contact DM at dmhoward@thebarbisms.com, Any love or hate mail is appreciated and incouraged.
